It is an inflammation of the plantar fascia and is a clinical diagnosis based on a history and examination completed by a physician. During sleep there is a normal tendency to plantar flex, causing the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon to contract from their normal active length. Nighttime contracture can result in significant heel and foot pain and discomfort for those with Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis or arthritis. This simple device is designed to control nighttime contracture to treat and relieve discomfort in mild or new cases of these conditions at their onset to help prevent further injury.

Plantar Fasciitis is caused by repetitive strain and is the most common cause of localized heel pain. It is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, a ligament structure that supports the longitudinal arch of the foot. It is a tough, fibrous band of connective tissue that runs from the heel bone to the ball of the foot. Common symptoms include a dull, intermittent pain in the heel or arch, progressing to a sharp, persistent pain.
